In September 2021 Archio took part in the Phoenix Design Festival in Lewes, East Sussex. The Phoenix Project is a masterplan for a new, green neighbourhood in Lewes, and the festival was an opportunity for the designers and practices involved in the project to present their schemes to the public.
The festival provided us with the opportunity for active community engagement, opening a dialogue with the local residents of Lewes to hear their feedback and ideas about the current form of the project.
Archio is proposing a cohousing block within the wider scheme, designed to reflect the physical and spatial characteristics of Lewes and with the aim of creating an “intentional community”.
Integral to the design and structure of the cohousing block is the group of people who will live there, and so the next step in its development is to define how the cohousing group will be run.
